Property managed by One Big Sustainable IslandI had the pleasure of renting out the entire island for my brother and sister in law's combined bachelorette and bachelor party in the summer of 2025 with about 30 people in total for 3 days. I could not recommend this island and the team that run it more!
Lets start with the staff: Kent is amazing! He was responsive, gave great recommendations for boat rentals (which if you have a crew I would suggest renting a pontoon boat), and went above and beyond to help make the weekend the best. Our boat broke down and he came with tools to help us fix it and gave us additional oil. We wanted to have a dance party and he was worried about sound travel over the water to neighbors so he went and did some research for us and found a silent disco set up that he rented (we paid for) for us and brought it out to be set up, he brought out water and all the other supplies we needed (paper goods). He provided multiple shuttle rides for us back and forth to the parking lot and the island even more than the usual schedule that they made. They have portable battery pack chargers that take 2 & 3 prong plugs and they will recharge and bring more out as needed (as there is no real electricity on the island except for lights in some of the cabins but no outlets). He gave us his personal number so we could message him for supplies as needed and rides to and from the parking lot on his pontoon. I planned this with him for a few months before going out to the island and it was a breeze and amazing to talk with him. Beyond just Kent, his staff are equally as helpful. Things were clean and when it needed cleaning they were right there. They helped us bring all our gear over and to all the different stays with their ATVs and unique wheel barrel train system they made (very fun to watch), they took our trash and resupplied us when needed. Very friendly and helpful all weekend long.
Location: You are on a pristine Maine island surrounded by clean fresh water. It is the idealistic picture perfect Maine lake experience. On the island there are a ton of awesome stays their own uniqueness with how they are built and structured so you can have the experience you want. From durable permanent tents to, to a floating boat house, to intricately built and unique cabins. There is also plenty of space to put up your own tent if that is your thing. They are all built well and have good screens so bugs inside are minimal at best (but it's Maine so better get used to them, they will get inside). There is no refrigeration. You will need to bring coolers (And they can also help provide some), but they bring out icepacks for you each day as needed to replace that they have in a chest freezer on the main land (You need to bring your own drinking ice if needed, there is a store about 10 min away from the parking lot on the main land). There are some grills that have propane and in one of the stays there is a small kitchen, but the stove is rather small and it is a stove top only. Preplan your meals and keep the lasagna at home. You're camping think camp food. There are plenty of spots to set up as a home base for a large group which is what we did for food drinks and our dance party. They have tons of well cut trails that lead you around the island (about 1 mile around) that are great to walk and see the different sides of the lake. Each point of the island and the edges have floating docks to swim out to. The beaches they have are rocky so don't expect nice Caribbean sand out here in Maine. We have mud and rocks and that is the way we like it.
This was an amazing weekend and I will be back! You can't beat the price and the service they offer. You also do not need to rent the whole island out like we did either. We had a large crew and figured it would be best with the activities we had planned. But you can rent out just one of the stays if you want to go on a nice romantic getaway with your partner. Just realize there may be others on the island with you so be respectful.

Property managed by One Big Sustainable IslandFrom the ferry ride over to the island, to the cabin itself, to the fall views, this was a PERFECT stay. We went at the end of October, so we caught the fall foliage; however, it was a bit too chilly out for canoeing etc. (the life jackets had been put away). Will absolutely be back to explore some more!!

Property managed by One Big Sustainable IslandWe stayed at the last week of Oct, so the views of fall foliage were gorgeous. It was a bit too chilly to enjoy the kayaking/canoeing by then, but the Aframe stayed warm as long as we attended to the wood stove. There’s a gorgeous walk around the island to enjoy the sunrise/set with benches along the way. It was the perfect way to unplug and reset! Throughout our time we kept saying how glad we were to have picked this spot. The photos don’t do justice, and the hosts were extremely friendly and hospitable! And, yes, it’s true— the compostable toilet didn’t have an odor at all. We’ll definitely be back again & will recommend to others!!

Property managed by One Big Sustainable IslandKent was an excellent communicator from the very beginning, preparing us for our stay at his off-grid retreat with a detailed list of everything available on the island. He also shared recommendations for activities, gave us some wonderful history about how the Island came to be, and his warm, light-hearted emails made an off-grid getaway feel easy, safe, and fun.
Each of the island’s five sites is unique and beautifully situated, and even though others were staying elsewhere on the island, it still felt completely secluded — like we were in our own world. The beds were incredibly cozy and comfortable, and having unlimited access to wood for warmth, the fire, and cooking made even the chilly nights feel relaxing and memorable.
This was an unforgettable escape for our 18th anniversary. We are so grateful to have found this magical, sustainable island getaway. Kent and Heather have created something truly special.

Property managed by One Big Sustainable IslandThe stay was beautiful and Kent was a great host! He made sure we had everything we needed, helped with luggage and had ice packs readily available. The space was clean and peaceful. Would highly recommend!
