Very isolated place which exactly what we wanted! This is pure nature and you have all the tools you need. We felt like found our little utopia here. Peaceful and calm days, it is hust a break from our daily lives. We lived that place and will come back for sure!

Our stay at One Big Sustainable Lake was absolutely incredible from start to finish. The property is even more beautiful in person — peaceful, thoughtfully designed, and surrounded by the most gorgeous natural scenery. It truly feels like a hidden escape where you can completely relax and disconnect.
What impressed us most was how seamlessly sustainability is incorporated into the experience. Nothing feels sacrificed for the sake of being eco-conscious; instead, the sustainable elements actually make the property feel more intentional, special, and connected to its surroundings. You can tell an incredible amount of thought and care has gone into every detail.
The lake setting was stunning, the atmosphere was incredibly peaceful, and the entire stay felt both elevated and comfortable. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to slow down, enjoy the view, and stay a few extra days.
We left feeling completely refreshed and already talking about when we could come back.

Danielle, thank you! You captured something that matters enormously to us: sustainability shouldn’t feel like a list of things you have to give up. At 1 Big Sustainable Island, we want our off-grid systems to make you feel more connected to the lake and the island, while still giving you a comfortable place to settle in and genuinely relax. We’re delighted Hammock Haven gave you that combination. And “completely refreshed” may be our favorite part. A peaceful Maine nature retreat is lovely, but sending humans back into the world feeling a little more human again is really the point of this whole experiment. Thank you for noticing the thought behind the place, for slowing down with us, and for spending a few days surrounded by the lake. We’d love to welcome you back to Hammock Haven whenever it’s time for another reset.

Ken and Melissa were exception hosts on Island, very welcoming and attentive to our stay. Melissa's grand daughter was a charm!
The location is excellent, secluded and yet very adaptable for our needs.
Friendly advise and welcoming emails.

Better communication with the powers that be. We used the link of address on our car gps and ended in the yard of a private home a mile away ( we confirmed address twice).Meanwhile once we finally found the loading site, we had to scurry around in a unfamiliar area that sold food through a google search, we eventually located one ( after 2 unsuccessful locations) that sold hot dogs and rolls. We rushed to meet the ferry at the designated time with minutes to spare. Only then did we learn that the ferry would pick us up if we were late.
Upon leaving, I requested instructions on how to. Only to find later in reviewing my texts that Instructions were issued, however, when Melissa and Ken arrived we were not packed up and ready. They were understanding and helped us put it all together while other guests remained patiently for departure.
CONSTRUCTIVE COMMENT: have ONE email document that addresses all concerns. e.g- Useful Phone Contact Number, A recommendation of a grocery provision store close by or at least a recommendation to supply up before.
The email should also include Departure Location Mainland, Departure Instructions from Island. Several different subject emails, sent separately, regarding such basic details is a big hassle!

We had a wonderful time canoeing and grilling and thoroughly enjoying the island. There was plenty of privacy and the hosts were so responsive, when we had left a phone at the dock before departing for the island, Kent ferried it over to us! Loved this experience thanks

Joe, thank you! We’re so glad you had a wonderful stay at Hammock Haven. Canoeing, grilling, plenty of privacy, and some unhurried island time sounds like a pretty good recipe for a Maine lake getaway. And we’re glad we could reunite you with the phone you left behind. We want Hammock Haven to feel like an escape from the mainland, but perhaps not quite that literally. Thanks for coming to play on the island with us. We’d love to welcome you back for another round!

Our stay was wonderful. We had the chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of life and catch our breath for a few days. I highly recommend staying on 1BSI, it was the perfect balance of feeling isolated while not feeling like you were properly in the middle of nowhere making fire with sticks. The perfect place to listen to the water, watch the birds, and sit by the fire.

Paul, thank you! Getting away from the hustle and bustle and catching your breath for a few days is pretty much the assignment we give Hammock Haven. And we love your description of feeling isolated without quite reaching the “making fire with sticks” stage of wilderness survival. That’s very close to our preferred version of an off-grid Maine getaway: enough separation from civilization to listen to the water, watch the birds, and sit around a fire, but not so much that you need to rediscover the Bronze Age. We’re delighted you found that balance at 1 Big Sustainable Island. Thanks for slowing down with us for a few days. We hope we’ll see you back when life calls for another reset.
