Our stay at El Rey de Portalon was amazing! The home is just stunning - while accurate, the photos can't do it justice. 3 large bedrooms, one of which stands alone just past the pool with a 270 degree view of the mountains and coast, all three host a full bath and comfy king bed. The kitchen/dining/family area is huge with views everywhere! The pool is lovely.
We loved having Gary Cerdas as a personal concierge, provided by Osa management. He helped us book experiences with trust and confidence and was always available when we had questions, even connecting us to a private chef (Chef Mario, who was amazing!) for a dinner one night.
Osa property management was spot on with communications, making every aspect of the experience easy. And the 11am checkout plus checkout instructions are very guest friendly!
Yes, you need 4x4 to get up the hill - we booked a Suziki Jimney and it was great. Mara polo beach 15 min south is lovely, stretching forever and nearly deserted!

We had a great time here. Location was perfect for the things we wanted to see/do. View was stunning and worth the drive it takes to get up there. The drive stops being scary after the first time. Host was very efficient and quick to respond to any messages. Keep in mind that you are in a forest so you may encounter lots of animals and bugs, sometimes even in the home but the experience was worth it!

El Rey de Portalón villa is absolutely breathtaking. This is definitely the most stunning and magical villa we've ever stayed in. Surrounded by jungle, with layers of mountains, and breathtaking ocean views spanning the entire front/sides of the house!
The saltwater pool and waterfall are so refreshing and peaceful! Tastefully furnished with super comfy beds, nice hot showers and excellent internet access. The kitchen is a chef's dream! We hired private Chef Mario one night and the dinner he made was five-star. We highly recommend him! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Butterflies surround the house while seeing toucans and parrots nearly every day—with a few surprise visits from a coati—was magical.
The drive up the road in our 4x4 was a piece of cake!

What an INCREDIBLE place. Seriously, I need to recalibrate all the other 5s I’ve ever given - this place is by far the most beautiful, breathtaking house we have ever rented. Vast, tastefully minimal decor, excellent kitchen fitted with lots of gadgets, deeply comfortable beds, fans and AC throughout… But what puts it at Bond Villian-level opulence is the outdoors. Wake every day to a stunning palimpsest of rain forest, blue mountains, shifting clouds, the Pacific, sunrises and sets, incredible animals, plants; coati rattling in the bushes, toucans and macaws flashing over the grounds as laughing falcons and vultures wheel on thermals that bring them into touching distance. The drama of the scenery made me not want to sleep. And the incredible pool is a perfect place to immerse yourself in these life-giving views. I had planned lots of activities in the area, but once we got there we didn’t want to leave! (Oh and the road is fine - no worse than many in CR.)

La maison était vraiment magnifique, avec des vues panoramiques tout simplement époustouflantes ! 🌴🌊
L’accès est certes un peu compliqué, mais tout à fait faisable avec un 4x4. Les hôtes veillent d’ailleurs à ce que cette information soit bien comprise au moment de la réservation, ce qui permet de s’organiser en conséquence.
Nous avons eu quelques petits soucis pendant notre séjour, notamment une coupure d’eau ainsi qu’un problème avec le gaz de la cuisine. Mais l’hôte a été très réactif et a permis de régler les problèmes très rapidement.
Nous avons passé un très beau séjour et recommandons vivement El Rey de Portalón. Une magnifique expérience au cœur de la nature !
